Time: 3:00am Weather: Cool & Clear, slight breeze Season: Late Winter/ Pre-Spring
Early morning, just as it always was in the city of Gidan. Kitsune sat there, running his hand just by his human ear as the gentle wind played with his strange red toned hair. Up upon a broken down shack just outside of the rice fields, right before you hit the main part of the giant village that loomed about the land.
He closed his eyes for a moment. In a way… making himself believe the call of the winds was his mothers voice. Lulling him off into slumber but that was a cruel thing to try to trick himself into. It pained his heart every time he thought about her… about his father. He didn’t know what exactly had happened…. Nobody did. Though many believed it was the fox spirits that had tricked his parents into death. Tricked his father into killing his mother… and then perform the act of seppaku upon himself. It was a horrid trick indeed and one day, the young man swore he would kill off every living fox he ever found crossed the land for such treachery. Hate brewed in his heart and the voices of the villagers didn’t help to mend that hate at all. For they themselves often cursed the fox that raided the village for fun and for food. The male picked up his staff as he stood up to full height. His golden crème and red yukata and rich red Hakama kept him warm through these late winter, pre spring nights. The fabric thick and consoling to his tender skin in this early morning air of the lands.
“ Time to go fox hunting.” He smirked to himself as he leapt off of the hut roof and took to the shadows about the rice fields. Waiting for one of them to try to steal from the village yet again as always…….

Enkou strolled toward the town walls, picking his way along one of the raised earth barriers to the paddy fields. He whistled tunelessly to himself as he walked and adjusted pack on his back. It contained the fruits of his newest job, katar and a bed roll. As he approached the edge of the village he saw a familiar figure dart from the shade of one of the huts into the paddy fields. He called out cheerfully to the young man and adjusted his course to walk toward him.
"Long time no see Kitsune. You out trying to catch those foxes again?"

“ Eh! Of course! Those beasts keep eating us out of house and home. If this keeps up we won’t last through the season till the next harvest.” He frowned as he rested his staff against his shoulder for a moment. Standing there looking to Enkou rather bored for the moment.
“ Hn, maybe it’s too chilly even for those beasts tonight. It’s been rather quiet.” He commented as a afterthought. Fire like eyes scanning the area. Just waiting to get his hands on those little brats!

Enkou raised his arms to the air and stretched massively before dropping back into a more normal stance and glancing around the darkening fields. Seeing that there was no way Kitsune would be catching foxes now an idea sprang to mind.
"Well in that case. Why don't we go back to the village, you buy me a drink and I'll show you what treasures I've collected in my most recent travels?"
He grinned encouragingly and shook the bag on his shoulder for emphasis, letting the objects inside rattle and bounce off each other.

Kit was debating whether to go along with his friends idea or to keep his guard. Well… .maybe no one would notice… if he stepped out for only for a moment.
“ Okay.” He replied as he jumped down right before him.
“ I need something to warm me up anyway.” He added as a afterthought.

Enkou's grin broadened as his friend accepted the offer and he hiked his bag further onto his shoulder before half turning and continuing on toward the village. He called back over his shoulder in a cheerful voice.
"Brilliant. We'll go to one of the closer watering holes, just in case you feel the need to come back and try and catch some foxes in the dark."
He was looking forward to showing Kitsune his wares, and of course the idea of having a cup of powerful alcohol burning away merrily in his gut.

“ Hn, if I knew where they lived I could get a team of men to take them all out.” He frowned as he followed the man. Holding onto his staff as he thought silently to himself for a moment.
“ I really don’t get what is with them damned youkai. Can’t they just grow their own fucking crops and leave ours alone. They keep doing this and this village will starve. Or at least the poorer ones like me and you.” He snorted.

Enkou walked along beside the young man and listened carefully to his angered rant [glow=red,2,300]"Eh, not all youkai are that bad. I admit that the canids do seem to have far too much of a hunter gatherer mentality, but w..I mean they are not all bad."[/glow] Not many in the village knew of Enkou's true nature and a slip of the tongue like that could get him outcaste if he wasn't careful. People had the same kind of mistrust of fire that they did of wolves. He coughed and carried on to try to steer Kitsune's thoughts away from his slip. [glow=red,2,300] "Anyway, men such as we two will never starve. I the seasoned traveller have the knack of aquiring all that I need for the lowest of prices and you Raika are a promising young jack of all trades."[/glow]

“ Still they need to stay out of our crop huts. We may be able to make our way but the elderly and others won’t. I know too well what a starving belly feels like.” He snipped. Not hearing the slight misuse of words luckily.
“ My greatest desire is to figure out which one of those furry rats killed my parents. Then they will pay.” He complained as he balled his hands into fists, though his thoughts were slowly steered away from this.
“Heh, it’s been awhile since someone used my surname. Half the time people just think it’s funny to use my given name. I can’t believe my mother thought that was a funny thing to do. “ He frowned. Hearing the bustle of the locale drinking shop drawing closer.

Enkou winced slightly at the sting in the tail of Kitsune's words "True, true we must think of others. I sometimes forget that."
He patted his friend on the shoulder companionably as they arrived at the drinking house."I'm sure you'll find out someday, it just won't be today I reckon."
"Heh, your mother obviously had a well developed sense of humour. Now, would you like to see my collection of new treasures or are we getting a drink first?" He stepped into the warmth and noise of the building and found a seat near the entrance.

“ Show me what you got.” Kit smirked as his fiery eyes looked to the bag upon sitting down. Not knowing how much his words had stung the man, nor how ironic his words were as well. For soon his true blood would come to light…..

Enkou grinned at his friend and pulled open the drawstring on the bag. He reached his arm deep inside and shifted things around until he found what he was looking for. He pulled out a reasonably large bundle of sack cloth tied up with twine. Taking the knife from his belt he cut the twine and unwrapped the bundle in the middle of the table.
Lying on top of the cloth were a pair of bizarre looking knives. The front edge of each blade looked perfectly normal but the backs of each sported three sharpened hooks. Each was made of a brilliant silvery metal and the handles were made of dark wood inlaid with silvery thread in the shape of a snake wound around the handle.
"These two nasty little fellows are sword breakers. See the hooks on the back? Get another blade in there, twist and it'll shatter like spun sugar. They've got another talent too, guess what it is."

" To cut and kill? " He grinned to him. Getting the picture rather swiftly. " So where did you pick this up at?" He asked rather curiously as his eyes looked up to his friends.

"Not quite the answer I was looking for. Look here at the handle."
He held up one of the knives for Kitsune to look more closely. He pulled out a pin disguised as the eye of the snake decoration and the handle folded away from the blade revealing a small chamber in which a tiny glass vial sat snugly. Once his friend had got a good view he folded it shut again and slid the pin back into place.
"That vial contains a rather nasty poison, hit the pommel on a hard surface and the vial breaks. There are some small holes in the hand guard and they allow the poison to run along the blade. Cunning design and pretty vicious."
He leaned back and placed the ornate sword breaker back on the cloth. He grinned thinly and eyed his friend from across the space before answering.
"As to where I got them. Lets say I know of a few of the shadier back alley shops in Fukui that don't lock their doors too well."

“ You are the crafty one.” Kit laughed a bit at this deviously.
“ If I didn’t know better I would think you were one of those demon fox. So what other precious things do you have in that bag?” He asked with much curiosity at the moment.
